Science at theUM [S06-ep02]: Upcoming Grape Harvests
This week on *A l’UM * science, Fabienne Remize, a researcher at Science for Oenology, introduces us to the doctoral research conducted as part of the Vinid’Occ key challenge. The report also takes us to SPO with Jean-Roch Mouret. Finally, Marianne Dupré-Gabirot presents the program for the Fête de la Science. With the grape harvest in full swing, we’d like to take this opportunity to discuss viticulture. In Occitanie, the ambitious “Défi clé Vinid’Occ” initiative aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of vineyards by offering solutions to adapt to climate change while maintaining the aromatic quality of the wines. Funded by the region, it has brought together more than 300 researchers over the past four years. A progress report on this initiative was featured in an article in the *Revue française d’œnologie*. To discuss the initial scientific findings of this extensive program, we’re joined by Fabienne Remize, a researcher at the SPO Science pour l’œnologie laboratory.
In the second half of the program, we’ll stay in SPO for a short series of reports from the Gaillarde campus. Jean-Roch Mouret kicks things off with his wine cellar, which is packed with sensors. It’s a unique system for monitoring the second fermentation—the “prise de mousse”—in the champagne-making process.
Finally, Marianne Dupré-Gabirot from “La Culture Scientifique” brings us a must-see event on the scientific calendar: the Fête de la Science, which will take place October 2–12 nationwide and on October 3 and 4 at the University of Montpellier, where the Science Village will open its doors at the Faculty of Education, as it does every year.
