Agnès Fichard-Caroll and Nadine Houédé named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor
In the class of January 1, 2023, Agnès Fichard-Carroll and Nadine Houédé, both professors at the University of Montpellier, were awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
Agnès Fichard-Carroll is Vice-President of the University of Montpellier, in charge of training and university life. Above all, she is a university professor of neuroscience at the UM Faculty of Science.
Nadine Houédé is a PU-PH (university professor and hospital practitioner) in oncology at Montpellier University Medical School and Nîmes University Hospital. She is also Director of the Cancéropôle Grand Sud-Ouest.
A prestigious honorary title
The Legion of Honor is the first national order to honor French citizens. It is the highest distinction. It rewards outstanding merit acquired on behalf of the Nation, either in a civilian capacity or under arms.
To be eligible for the Légion d'honneur, the following 3 conditions must be met:
- the person concerned must have shown eminent merit in the exercise, for at least 20 years, of activities for the benefit of the general interest and the Nation;
- the person must be proposed by a minister, after studying a file compiled at the request of a central administration, a prefect, an association, a politician (mayor, deputy, etc.) or a group of at least 50 people (for the citizens' initiative);
- the proposal must be approved by the Council of the Order of the Legion of Honor, chaired by the Grand Chancellor.
