Alain Hoffmann, new Director of the Faculty of Science
The Board of Directors of the Faculty of Science of the University of Montpellier met on Wednesday February 22 to elect its new Director. Alain Hoffmann was elected by majority vote.

University professor, Alain Hoffmann teaches in the Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Automation (EEA) department and carries out his research work at theInstitute of Electronics and Systems (IES). Currently Deputy Director of the Faculty, he received 30 votes out of 35 (5 blank votes). He succeeds Adam A. Ali, PhD, current provisional administrator of the Faculty, and Gilles Halbout, previous Director of the Faculty of Science, who was recently elected to the Presidency of the COMUE.
Alain Hoffmann will take up his new position on March 7, 2017.

The Faculty of Science is part of the University of Montpellier (UM comprises 8 faculties, 6 institutes and 2 schools).
It welcomes nearly 8,200 students every year. Its range of courses covers all scientific fields, from fundamental to applied sciences: mathematics, computer science, mechanics, electronics, physics, chemistry, earth sciences, biology, ecology, etc.
It draws on the skills of the University of Montpellier's research laboratories, particularly those attached to the Faculty of Science, in conjunction with other French and foreign universities, local authorities and major national research organizations.
