Christening of the “Louis EUZET,” the new vessel of the Mediterranean Coastal Environment Station in Sète

On Friday, October 6, starting at 11 a.m., OREME and the University of Montpellier will inaugurate the second vessel of the Mediterranean Coastal Environment Station (SMEL), named “Louis Euzet.” The inauguration will take place in Sète in the presence of Philippe Augé, president of the University of Montpellier; Eric Servat, director of the OSU OREME at the University of Montpellier; and Sébastien Mas, director of the SMEL.

By invitation only

The acquisition of this vessel had been a priority for OREME and SMEL for several years. The project became a necessity due to the increasing number of requests received for local and national research projects and service provision. The capabilities of the “Louis Euzet” will enable the station to expand the scope of its offshore operations.

The Objectives of OREME

Affiliated with the University of Montpellier, the Montpellier Environmental Research Observatory (OREME) is dedicated to the long-term observation of climate change and human activities in order to better understand their effects on the environment and the planet. OREME is notably present at the Mediterranean Coastal Environment Station in Sète, which conducts studies at sea and in the Thau Lagoon. Its researchers observe the effects of climate change on marine biodiversity, notably through species monitoring and in situ experiments.
