Ceremony to Award Armand Soldera an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Montpellier
On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Philippe Augé, president of the University of Montpellier, will confer an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier upon Armand Soldera, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Physical Chemistry at the University of Sherbrooke in Canada. The ceremony will take place in the S. Peytavin Amphitheater in Building 31 on the Triolet Campus starting at 5:00 p.m., in the presence of François Pierrot, Vice President for International Relations; Lionel Torres, Director of Polytech Montpellier; and Éric Anglaret, Associate Director for International Relations

Armand Soldera will be awarded an honorary doctorate
Professor Armand Soldera is dean of the Faculty of Sciences and director of the Laboratory of Molecular Physical Chemistry at the University of Sherbrooke (Quebec, Canada). He specializes in multiscale simulation of complex “soft matter” systems. His first lecture, as an Honorary Doctor of the University of Montpellier, will be titled “From the Atom to the Material: A Metaphor for Human Society.”
What does the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” mean?
Established by decree on June 26, 1918, the origins of the honorary doctorate may date back to the 17th century. It is awarded to distinguished foreign figures who highlight and embody the university’s values through their contributions to the worlds of ideas, culture, the arts, and the sciences. Awarded during a formal ceremony, this academic title is the most distinguished and prestigious that can be conferred by the academic and scientific community.
