Ceremony to award Milena Dragićević Šešić an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier

On Friday, December 15, 2023, Philippe Augé, president of the University of Montpellier, will award an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier to Milena Dragićević Šešić, professor emeritus at the University of Arts in Belgrade. The ceremony will take place at the Faculty of Law and Political Science starting at 2:15 p.m., in the presence of François Pierrot, Vice President for International Relations, Guylain Clamour, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, and Emmanuel Négrier, Director of the Center for Political and Social Studies (CEPEL).

Milena Dragićević Šešić will receive an honorary doctorate

Holder of the UNESCO Chair in Interculturalism, Arts Management, and Mediation, Milena Dragićević Šešić is professor emeritus at the University of Arts in Belgrade, where she served as president from 2000 to 2004. She specializes in participatory approaches to the design and development of local, regional, and national cultural policies. Milena Dragićević Šešić works as an expert in cultural policy and management for the Council of Europe, the European Cultural Foundation, and the Pro Helvetia Foundation. With more than 50 projects under her belt, her expertise has benefited the cultural policies of many countries in Southeast Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. She was honored by France in 2002, which awarded her the insignia of Commander of the Order of Academic Palms. 

What does the title "Doctor Honoris Causa" represent?

Created by decree on June 26, 1918, the origins of the honorary doctorate date back to the 17th century. It recognizes foreign figures who highlight and echo the values of the university through their contributions to the world of ideas, culture, arts, and sciences. Awarded during a formal ceremony, this academic title is the most distinguished and prestigious that can be conferred by the academic and scientific community.
