Charm-EU: Together for colorectal cancer research

On September 25, an international conference on the theme of colorectal cancer launched a brand new teaching module developed by UM and Utrecht University (Netherlands) as part of the Charm-EU alliance of European universities. The aim of the two academic partners? To harness the excellence of international research networks to help their students tackle global challenges.

Organized as part of the Charm-EU European University, the "Integrated approaches to fight colorectal cancer: all together to break down barriers" conference took place on September 25 at the Montpellier Cancer Research Institute (IRCM). The event brought together clinicians and researchers from the universities of Montpellier and Utrecht, as well as patient associations (Digestive cancers Europe, Mon réseau cancer colorectal, etc.). Together, they shared their work and expertise with international students from various disciplines at UM and Utrecht University. The event was organized in close collaboration with the SIRIC Montpellier cancer, a site of excellence in cancer research accredited by the French National Cancer Institute (INCa), as well as the Institut du cancer de Montpellier (ICM), the IRCM and the Institut des biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM).

International research networks

This international conference inaugurated an experimental teaching module in English open to students from the two partner universities. Entitled "Tackling challenges through international linked research hub", this international and interdisciplinary module is organized within the framework of the Charm-EU alliance of European universities. It leverages the excellence of international research networks to tackle global challenges, enabling students to experience a pedagogy focused on solving challenges while preparing to design a research project.

Following the conference, the French and Dutch students will work together in small teams for a semester to propose research projects related to the pathology in question, with the support of researchers interested in the topic, as well as patients and experts in the field. They will be presenting their joint work on December 11 at the IRCM.
