Choosing Oncology and Biotechnology

On May 20, 2026, nearly 60 master’s and doctoral students, as well as postdoctoral researchers, attended an information day on the commercialization of cancer research and career opportunities in the biotechnology sector.

Hosted at the Montpellier Regional Cancer Institute (IRCM), this event was jointly organized by the GSO Cancer Cluster, the Evocan 2 University Health Unit, the Montpellier Cancer Siric, and the Montpellier University Innovation Cluster (PUI).

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to learn about the various support programs for commercializing research projects offered by the stakeholders of the Montpellier University Innovation Cluster, including the University of Montpellier,the Initium incubator, the SATT AxLR, Bpifrance, the Occitanie Region, Inserm Transfert, CNRS Innovation, the BIC Montpellier, and MedVallée.

The event highlighted the continuing education programs available in Montpellier to enhance scientific careers, particularly through presentations on the programs offered byIAE Montpellier and Montpellier Management (MOMA).

Several innovative local companies also came to share their experiences and present inspiring career paths in the fields of biotechnology and health innovation, including Phost’in Therapeutics, Mabqi, aKen Medical, Cyberna, PredictCan, Quantacell, Theralan, and Ventuno.

Finally, discussions with Montpellier-based biotech companies such as Inits, Mabqi, Theralan, Cyberna, and Aken Medical gave young researchers the opportunity to explore practical avenues for commercialization, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer in the field of oncology.

This event highlights the vitality of Montpellier’s ecosystem in fostering collaboration between academic research, innovation, and economic development.
