NTU 2023 rankings: Université de Montpellier highly ranked in France and internationally!

Published on September1, 2023, the NTU rankings measure the performance of the world's universities in terms of the volume and quality of their scientific publications. The latest rankings put the University of Montpellier in4th place in France, and 127th in the world.

The "Performance ranking of scientific papers for world universities", also known as NTU, is published annually by the National Taiwan University (NTU). They compare the scientific performance of the world's universities, based on academic publications, from three angles: research productivity, research impact and research excellence. This year, NTU offers a global performance ranking (top 1000), as well as 6 domain-specific rankings and 27 subject-specific rankings (top 100 and top 500).

The University of Montpellier therefore ranks among the top 4 in France, and among the top 127 worldwide in the NTU world university ranking. It also performed remarkably well in the thematic rankings by discipline and research theme.

The 2023 edition of the Shanghai ranking once again demonstrates UM's very positive overall dynamic, confirming its position for the fifth year running as one of the 151-200 best universities in the world. This is a constant progression since 2016, when the UM was in the top 400. These good results demonstrate the major place that the University of Montpellier occupies in France's higher education, research and innovation environment, thanks in particular to its I-SITE Excellence program.

In THE Ranking Impact: "Times Higher Education", the UM is ranked first among French institutions, and among the 101-200 best institutions worldwide. The UM is in the world's top 100 for 4 sustainable development objectives, and in first place in France for two of them, in line with the establishment's major themes: food, care and protection. It is the leading French establishment for objectives relating to health, well-being and the reduction of inequalities, as well as the leading French establishment for the objective relating to aquatic life.

The University of Montpellier maintains its position in the CWTS Leiden Ranking. This ranking, which provides important information on the scientific performance of over 1,500 major universities worldwide, is based on scientific publications and their citations by other researchers. In the 2023 world ranking of most cited publications (+10%), published on June 21, the University of Montpellier has moved up 3 places compared with 2022, from 7th to4th place among the 30 French universities listed. It is also the country'sNo. 1 university in the "Life and Earth Sciences" field, in terms of both total number of publications and the "Top10%" criterion. This remarkable national positioning is also reflected on a European scale: the University of Montpellier is in 9th place for the volume of publications (12th for the "Top10%") in the "life and earth sciences" field, and 59th (54th for the "Top10%") for all scientific fields combined.

According to the Reuters ranking of the most innovative universities, the University of Montpellier is the leading French university and ranks 17th in Europe.
