[Takeoff #10] Becoming a PEPR funding recipient

Farida Djouad is a researcher at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapy (IRMB). As part of the PEPR Ichondro program, she is developing a cell therapy treatment aimed at repairing joint cartilage damage in patients. This project, funded by the ANR, receives support aimed at strengthening strategic initiatives in scientific research in France. She talks about it in the Décollage series offered by the Department of Innovation and Partnerships (Dipa) at the University of Montpellier.

It was while working on zebrafish that Farida Djouad understood the central role of neural crest-derived cells in cartilage regeneration. This discovery led to the Ichondro project, which aims to "develop an innovative cell therapy product using induced pluripotent cells differentiated into neural crest cells to repair joint cartilage defects in patients," explains theInserm research director. This project brings together a national ecosystem, in close collaboration with hospitals, national infrastructures, and academic research centers.

When applying for PEPR funding, Farida Djouad called on Dipa, which supported her from the early stages of setting up the project to drafting the invention disclosures to protect her discoveries. "PEPRs act as catalysts: they enable us to accelerate our research work, moving from basic research to clinical research. In my opinion, they also provide a unique opportunity to create very strong national networks that bring together the various areas of expertise we have here in France. "
