[Décollage#9] Winner of the Montpellier innovation booster (BIM)

Hamza El Jjouaoui is a research engineer at the Montpellier Laboratory of Computer Science, Robotics and Microelectronics (Lirmm). In 2023, he won the Montpellier innovation booster for his Clamps project. He tells us all about it in the video series "Décollage", presented by the University of Montpellier's Department of Innovation and Partnerships (Dipa).

Hamza El Jjouaoui works in robotics and is particularly interested in medical applications. As part of his Clamps project, he has invented new flexible silicone structures, made using a 3D printer, which adapt to the human body and prevent any injuries or lesions to patients. " The silicone 3D printer makes it easy to create complex, precise structures with potentially bizarre internal cavities or external shapes, without the user having to intervene during the printing process," explains the Lirmm engineer.

Knowing every aspect of your project

In 2023, he signed up for the Montpellier innovation booster, which enabled him to take a three-day training course specifically for innovative project leaders. " For me, the Bim was a real pitch training course. We're taught how to structure and master all aspects of our project, because as scientists we're mostly familiar with the technological side. " It was also an opportunity for him to discover Montpellier's innovation ecosystem, and to exchange ideas with other project leaders to dispel any doubts about the relevance of his innovation. 

Hamza El Jjouaoui won the final competition at the end of the 3-day event, and received support from the Initium incubator. " Dipa also helped me file my first invention declaration with Yassine Haddab (Lirmm) and Philippe Poignet (Lirmm). All this support enabled us to speed up our project and recruit a software engineer to strengthen our team." In February 2024, he was selected to join the CNRS Innovation's Rise prematurity program. His advice to young entrepreneurs? " Get started! "
