Where do I come from, where am I going? : screening of short films on cultural diversity at the Faculty of Education on the Carcassonne site

Throughout the 2023/2024 academic year, students and staff from the Carcassonne site of the Faculty of Education at the University of Montpellier have viewed, debated and chosen short films on the theme of cultural diversity as part of a workshop led by the KOVisuel association. On Thursday March 28, 2024 at 8pm, the selected films will be screened at the CGR-Le Colisée cinema in Carcassonne during an evening hosted by the students and staff who took part in the workshop.

Short film programming workshop

From October 2023 to March 2024, 15 students and staff from Carcassonne's Faculty of Education took part in a short-film programming workshop on the theme of cultural diversity. Each month, Jacob Redman from the KOVisuel image education association presented them with a pre-selection of short films. The participants analyzed, discussed and defended their favorites, listened to each other's arguments, and came to a consensus to propose a rich and varied final selection for presentation to the general public.

One theme: cultural diversity

This year, all the short films address the theme of cultural diversity. Looking beyond stereotypes and preconceived ideas, the directors invite us to take a sensitive look at the journeys of women, men and children who, with their rich histories and cultures, are building a society together. Through an artistic, original and aesthetic approach, the films deal with the acceptance of others, exchange and living together, but also with obstacles, prejudices and tragedies.

A screening at CGR-Le Colisée

As in 2023, when the screening on the theme "C'est quoi ton genre?" attracted over 120 people, this year's short films will be screened on Thursday March 28 at 8pm at the CGR-Le Colisée cinema in Carcassonne. The evening, open to all for a single fee of €5, will be hosted by the students and staff who have been taking part in the workshop throughout the year. They will present their choices and propose a discussion after the screening. Whether fiction, documentary or animated films, the eclectic range of works presented will have one thing in common: they will address the richness of cultural diversity and living together.

The workshop and screening are proposed by the art & culture department - campus life division of the University of Montpellier, in partnership with the Faculty of Education, Les Amis du Cinoch' and KOVisuel, and are co-financed by the CVEC (student and campus life contribution). This screening is part of the Semaine de lutte contre le racisme et l'antisémitisme organized by the University of Montpellier from March 25 to 29, 2024.
