Where do I come from, where am I going?: screening of short films on cultural diversity at the Faculty of Education on the Carcassonne campus
Throughout the 2023/2024 academic year, students and staff at the Carcassonne campus of the Faculty of Education at the University of Montpellier watched, discussed, and selected short films on the theme of cultural diversity as part of a workshop led by the KOVisuel association. On Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 8 p.m., the selected films will be screened at the CGR-Le Colisée cinema in Carcassonne during an evening hosted by the students and staff who participated in the workshop.
A workshop on "Programming short films"
From October 2023 to March 2024, 15 students and staff members from the Faculty of Education in Carcassonne took part in a workshop to program short films on the theme of cultural diversity. Each month, Jacob Redman from the film education association KOVisuel provided them with a pre-selection of short films. The participants analyzed, discussed, and defended their favorites, listened to each other's arguments, and reached a consensus to propose a rich and varied final selection to present to the general public.
A theme: cultural diversity
This year, all the short films address the theme of cultural diversity. Beyond stereotypes and preconceived notions, the directors invite us to take a sensitive look at the journeys of women, men, and children who, rich in their histories and cultures, are building a society together. Through an artistic, original, and aesthetic approach, the films deal with acceptance of others, exchange, and living together, but also with obstacles, prejudices, and tragedies.
A screening at the CGR-Le Colisée cinema
As in 2023, when the screening on the theme "What's your type?" attracted more than 120 people, this year's selected short films will be screened on Thursday, March 28 at 8 p.m. at the CGR-Le Colisée cinema in Carcassonne. This evening event, open to all at a single price of €5, will be hosted by the students and staff who participated in the workshop throughout the year. They will present their choices and lead a discussion after the screening. Fiction, documentaries, and animated films—the eclectic works that will be presented all share a common theme of cultural diversity and living together.
The workshop and screening are organized by the Art & Culture Department – Campus Life Division of the University of Montpellier, in partnership with the Faculty of Education, Les Amis du Cinoch’ and KOVisuel, and are co-financed by the CVEC (student and campus life contribution). This screening is part of the Week Against Racism and Anti-Semitism organized by the University of Montpellier from March 25 to 29, 2024.
