MT180s Regional Final 2024
As in previous years, three students were awarded prizes by the jury of the Ma thèse en 180 secondes competition. Rakine Mouhoubi from the University of Montpellier won the public prize. A new feature of this 2024 edition, students from 35 classes from 14 local high schools were also able to choose their favorite.
20 PhD students from the University of Montpellier, Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 and Université de Perpignan Via Domitia, made a strong impression this Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Occitanie-Est regional final of "Ma Thèse en 180 secondes". The 11th edition was held at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie in Montpellier. In front of a packed amphitheatre, the 20 finalists took part in the exercise, presenting their research topic in three minutes, with a clear, concise, enthusiastic yet convincing presentation [L1] of their research project, based on a single slide.
At the end of the presentations, the audience made their choice, while the jury retired to deliberate. And after a few long minutes of suspense, the winners of this regional final were announced:

Airelle Lahalle, University of Montpellier
Thesis topic: Role of the p53 pathway in the epigenetic regulation of fatty acid metabolism
Abdul Razak Moussa Tankari, who took part in the 2023 edition of MT180, won the high school students' prize. The subject of his thesis is : Study and optimization of Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCOs) based on doped ZnO nanoparticles in nanostructured thin films for photovoltaic solar cells.
To promote scientific culture among schoolchildren, students from 35 classes in 14 high schools in the Montpellier region watched the performances of the 10th regional final before voting for their favorite candidate.
"Ma thèse en 180 secondes" is organized by the CNRS in partnership with France Universités. The regional final is run by the two doctoral colleges in the Occitanie-Est region: the Collège doctoral Languedoc-Roussillon and the Collège Doctoral de l'Université de Montpellier.
