2024 Regional Final of the MT180s Competition

As every year, three students were honored with prizes by the jury of the My Thesis in 180 Seconds competition. Rakine Mouhoubi from the University of Montpellier won the audience award. A new feature of the 2024 edition was that students from 35 classes from 14 high schools in the academy were also able to vote for their favorite.

Twenty doctoral researchers the University of Montpellier, Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 University, and the University of Perpignan Via Domitia made a strong impression on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the Occitanie-Est regional final of "My Thesis in 180 Seconds." This 11th edition was organized at the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier. In front of a packed auditorium, the 20 finalists took part in the exercise by presenting their research topic in three minutes, through a clear, concise, enthusiastic, and nevertheless convincing presentation of their research project, using a single slide.

After the presentations, the audience made their choice while the jury withdrew to deliberate. And after a few long minutes of suspense, the winners of this regional final were announced:

    Thesis topic: Additive manufacturing of liquid crystal elastomers for the development of medical devices
  • 2nd prize from the jury
    Xavi Marquez Ayllon, Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 University
    Thesis topic: Representations and didactic applications in language learning: Catalan and Occitan as vectors of multilingualism through intercomprehension
  • 3rd prize from the jury
    Airelle Lahalle, University of Montpellier
    Thesis topic: Role of the p53 pathway in the epigenetic regulation of fatty acid metabolism

Abdul Razak Moussa Tankari, who participated in the 2023 edition of MT180, received the high school students' award. The subject of his thesis is: Study and optimization of Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCO) based on doped ZnO nanoparticles in nanostructured thin films for use in photovoltaic solar cells

With a view to promoting scientific culture among schoolchildren, students from 35 classes in 14 high schools in the Montpellier school district watched the performances in the 10th edition of the regional final before voting for their favorite candidate.

"My thesis in 180 seconds" is organized by the CNRS in partnership with France Universités. The regional final is run by the two doctoral colleges in the Occitanie-Est region: the Languedoc-Roussillon Doctoral College and the Doctoral College of the University of Montpellier.
