In Memory of Claude Lenfant, Honorary Doctorate Recipient fromUM

Dr. Claude Lenfant passed away at the age of 94.

A former director of the NHLBI (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) for 21 years at the prestigious National Institutes of Health in Bethesda (USA), he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Montpellier in 2001. Most of his work focused on asthma, with an emphasis on raising public awareness, educating and training healthcare professionals, and advancing Research excellence Research founding the “Global Initiative for Asthma” consortium—an academic thesaurus on asthma that is now world-renowned, widely adopted, and continuously updated.

An inspiring and visionary man, many consider him one of the key figures responsible for reducing global mortality from this disease by more than 80%.
