UM ’s ISO 9001 quality management systemUM to expand

For the third consecutive time, the University of Montpellier has had its ISO 9001 certification renewed following a particularly positive audit. No nonconformities or areas of concern were identified, confirming the robustness and maturity of the quality management system implemented at the university. In addition, 21 strengths were highlighted, illustrating the teams’ collective commitment and the gradual establishment of a genuine culture of continuous improvement.

Launched in 2010, the institution’s quality initiative has gradually taken shape and expanded. Initially focused on two processes—program enrollment and procurement—it now covers a much broader range of activities.

Today, the scope of the certification includes: six degree programs, continuing education, support for career placement, two research units, the enrollment and degree conferral of doctoral students, documentation management (Joint Documentation Service), information and digital services, and human resources management.  This gradual expansion reflects the institution’s commitment to making quality a core element of its operations and services on a long-term basis.

The initiative is now being rolled out in collaboration with the ISDM (Montpellier Institute of Data Science), thereby confirming the momentum behind the expansion of the scope of the ISO 9001 quality management system initiated byUM.

Among the strengths that were particularly noted during the audit were the maturity of the quality management system, a pragmatic and effective organizational structure, and strong support from senior leadership. The quality of the support provided to frontline staff was also commended, particularly through individualized follow-up, regular training sessions, and the provision of tools and resources accessible via the institution’s intranet.

Beyond the renewal of the certification, this audit thus recognizes a long-term collective effort, driven by the commitment of the teams and focused on the continuous improvement of services provided to users, partners, and university staff.
