“The Memory of Walls” a photographic and poetic investigation by Marc Dantan
From July 11 until August 27, 2023, visitors can enjoy free admission to the exhibition "La mémoire des murs" (The Memory of Walls) by artist Marc Dantan. The exhibition is open at the Orangerie du Jardin des Plantes at the University of Montpellier, Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The exhibition in a nutshell
The University of Montpellier has many remarkable buildings, some of which are protected as historic monuments, linked to its teaching and research activities in a wide range of scientific fields: these include the historic Faculty of Medicine building, the Institute of Botany, and the Institute of Biology.
With a view to preserving documentation of these buildings, particularly those undergoing restoration and renovation work, a photographic campaign was commissioned from Marc Dantan in 2022. It turns out that these photographs, far from serving a purely commemorative purpose, offer a poetic perspective on spaces that are little known to the general public. The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to share this sensory experience at the Orangerie du Jardin des Plantes, itself an iconic building of the University of Montpellier and a listed historic monument.
