The first class of students in the “IDIL” program at the University of Montpellier is attending its summer school
The “IDIL” (Interdisciplinary – In-lab Graduate Program) Summer School will take place from September 5 to 9, 2022. On this occasion, Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, and Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Life—who is co-leading the project with Professor Mathieu Sicard—will officially launch the IDIL graduate program, a recipient of the ANR’s “Structuring Education through Research Idex and Isite” call for proposals. In this first year, more than 60 students will be enrolled. The launch will take place in front of Building 36 on the Triolet Campus on Wednesday, September 7, starting at 12:30 p.m.
By invitation only
As the first step in the IDIL graduate program, the Summer School is designed to welcome the students who make up the first IDIL cohort. Throughout the week, there will be a series of information sessions about the program, lectures, and opportunities for students to interact with various members of the research community, particularly their future mentors.
For example, you can attend the following conferences:
- "Managing Forests for Climate," Dr. Hurteau, University of New Mexico, Monday at 5:30 p.m.
- Mosquito vs. Sapiens: Guilty or Not Guilty? Revisiting Relationships in a One Health Approach, Dr. Fontenille, IRD, Wednesday at 5 p.m.
- “Glutamate: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” Dr. Pin, CNRS, Thursday at 5 p.m.

The IDIL Program in a Nutshell:
With its brand-new graduate program, called the Interdisciplinary & In-lab Graduate Program, the University welcomes French and international students through eight new master’s programs and one engineering program, all taught in English. The goal is to increase the University of Montpellier’s international reach, strengthen education focused on and driven by research, and promote interdisciplinarity. This represents a true academic innovation.
The IDIL graduate program consists of eight master’s tracks and one engineering track. These master’s programs span several disciplinary fields: ecology and evolution, biology and health, agricultural sciences, chemistry, political science, management, modeling, and geology and hydrology. The engineering track, meanwhile, operates under the same laboratory immersion model as the master’s programs but is specifically designed for students enrolled at the École nationale supérieure de chimie, the Institut Agro Montpellier, and Polytech Montpellier.
In this initial phase, the IDIL program is being rolled out across 8 tracks, distributed among 6 units ofUM in collaboration with some 60 laboratories. Ultimately, the goal of the graduate program is to offer approximately 30 tracks, involving all 73 ofUM research units, in order to create a true network connecting the University’s various units.
