The first class of students in the University of Montpellier's "IDIL" program take part in the Summer School

The "IDIL" Summer School (Interdisciplinary - In lab graduate program) runs from September 5 to 9, 2022. On this occasion, Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice-President in charge of training and university life, and co-sponsor of the project with Pr Mathieu Sicard, will officially launch the IDIL graduate program, winner of the ANR's call for projects "Structuring Training through Research in Idex and Isite". More than 60 students will be welcomed for this first year. The launch will take place in front of building 36 on the Triolet Campus on Wednesday September 7, starting at 12:30 pm.

By invitation only

As the cornerstone of the IDIL graduate program, the Summer School aims to welcome the students representing the first IDIL graduating class. Throughout the week, information meetings on the program, conferences and moments of sharing between students and the various players in research, in particular future mentors, will follow one another.

For example, you can attend the following conferences:

  • Managing forests for climate, Dr. Hurteau, University of New Mexico, Monday at 5:30 p.m.
  • Mosquito vs Sapiens: guilty or not guilty? Revisiting relationships in a one health approach, Dr Fontenille, IRD, Wednesday at 5 p.m.
  • "Glutamate: the good, the bad and the ugly", Dr. Pin, CNRS, Thursday at 5 p.m.

The IDIL program in a nutshell:

With its brand new Inter-disciplinary & In-lab Graduate Program, the University welcomes French and international students to eight new master's courses and one engineering course, all taught in English. The aim is to increase the international scope of the University of Montpellier, strengthen training through and for research, and promote interdisciplinarity. A real academic innovation.

The IDIL graduate program comprises eight master's courses and one engineering course. The master's courses cover a range of disciplines: ecology-evolution, biology-health, agrosciences, chemistry, science-politics, management, modeling and geology-hydrology. The engineering pathway, meanwhile, is based on the same laboratory immersion arrangements as the masters programs, but is aimed more specifically at students training at the École nationale supérieure de chimie, Institut Agro Montpellier and Polytech Montpellier.

In this first phase, the IDIL program is being rolled out over 8 tracks, spread across 6 UM components and in collaboration with some 60 laboratories. Ultimately, the ambition is to open around 30 pathways, involving the UM's 73 research structures, in order to create a genuine network connecting the University's various components.
