The MUSE trading room at the School of Economics is now open!
Officially inaugurated by Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, the “MUSE” trading room at the University of Montpellier’s Faculty of Economics is a learning space for the analysis and management of risks in professional settings for future finance professionals.

The project leaders, François MIRABEL, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, and Françoise Seyte, Senior Lecturer at the University of Montpellier, described this trading floor as “a place where risk management professionals process buy and sell orders for complex financial products (stocks, bonds, options, etc.) in order to maximize returns on capital investments and minimize the risk of losses.”
This state-of-the-art, multifunctional space represents a true educational innovation in the digital age, grounded in professional practices. With 15 workstations, it can accommodate up to 30 students at a time and enables an innovative approach to teaching risk analysis and finance, entrepreneurship, and risk management. It is equipped with:
- 15 workstations, dual monitors, and trading software, in order to view as much real-time information as possible and react (buying/selling stocks) based on fluctuations in the displayed data,
- an interactive screen,
- large screens tuned to business news channels,
- an educational robot that facilitates remote interaction with professionals and teachers (Awabot).
Thanks to Daniel Melhem, a former student of the Money, Banking, Finance, and Insurance program—a data scientist and founder of the Paris-based company DIMTECH—the trading floor will provide students with state-of-the-art trading software. Daniel Melhem holds a Ph.D. in quantitative finance and specializes in the fractal approach to chaos, financial modeling, and asset management. He leads a team of researchers specializing in the development of trading strategies as well as innovative models for the selection, forecasting, and allocation of financial assets.
