Secret life on campus

The UM's campuses, preserved spaces in the heart of the city, are teeming with unsuspected biodiversity, and are the focus of the "24 heures de la biodiversité sur ton campus" (24 hours of biodiversity on your campus). An event open to the general public and schoolchildren.
Did you know that the Triolet campus is home to squirrels, Mauritanian tarantulas, foxes and weasels? If not everyone is lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these very discreet neighbors, the naturalist group of the University of Montpellier (GNUM) invites you to come and discover this hidden world at the "24 heures de la biodiversité sur ton campus" (24 hours of biodiversity on your campus), on Thursday May 12. This day, open to the general public, will see various Faculty of Science associations take turns on the Triolet campus to raise awareness of the issues involved in protecting urban biodiversity.

A unique opportunity to learn how to recognize flora and fauna, make bird feeders, take photographs or draw pictures...

"Biodiversity loss is a terrible reality, whether in the countryside or in the city. So it's important for citizens to get to grips with this issue. Another objective is to increase knowledge of the ecology of urban flora and fauna. This scientific knowledge will be very useful for observing the biology and dynamics of certain species", explains Guillaume Bagnolini, scientific mediator and co-author of the Petit guide naturaliste de la faculté des sciences, the fruit of a collaborative inventory carried out over three years by university students. The initiative, called Inventaire Fac, l'observatoire de la biodiversité sur les campus (www.inventairefac.com), will be presented to the public by GNUM members.
