“Fact or Fiction”: Short films selected by students from the Carcassonne School of Education
Throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, students and staff at the Carcassonne campus of the Faculty of Education watched, discussed, and selected short films as part of a workshop led by the KOVisuel association. On Tuesday, April 7, at 8:00 p.m., the selected films will be screened at the CGR-Le Colisée cinema in Carcassonne during an evening hosted by everyone who participated in the workshop.
A workshop on “short film programming”
From October 2025 to March 2026, 15 students and staff members participated in a workshop on programming short films centered on the theme of the boundary between truth and fiction. Each month, Jacob Redman from the film education association KOVisuel provided them with a shortlist of short films. The participants analyzed, discussed, and defended their favorites, listened to everyone’s arguments, and reached a consensus to propose a rich and varied final selection to present to the general public.
A theme: fact versus fiction
At a time when fake news, rumors, and manipulated images are spreading at breakneck speed, let’s examine the concepts of “true” and “false” and the blurred lines between them. From the little white lies of everyday life to large-scale disinformation, there are many ways in which reality and fantasy become intertwined. Through eight short films, you’ll have the chance to discover how cinema, the art of the image, and fiction tackle these questions.
A screening at the CGR-Le Colisée movie theater
Since 2023, the CGR-Le Colisée cinema has hosted this annual project organized by the University of Montpellier’s Art & Culture Department. This event on the evening of April 7, 2026, open to everyone at a flat rate of €5, will be hosted by the students and staff who participated in the workshop throughout the year. They will present their selections and lead a discussion following the screening.
The workshop and screening are presented by the Art & Culture Department—Campus Life Division of the University of Montpellier, in partnership with the Faculty of Education, Les Amis du Cinoch’, and KOVisuel, and are co-funded by the CVEC (Student and Campus Life Fund).
