Lengguru, a lost world

From March 14 to March 31, 2016, the University of Montpellier is hosting the "Lengguru, a lost world" exhibition in the hall of the Palais Universitaire des Sports. An opportunity for the general public to discover the first results of the largest scientific expedition ever carried out in Indonesia.

An extraordinary meeting with the IRD scientists coordinating the expedition. This is one of the planet's last unexplored territories. Located in West Papua, this vast mountain range is twice the size of Corsica, isolated and wild, and teeming with unknown species. A real treasure trove for naturalists...

An extraordinary scientific and human adventure

For the Lengguru scientific expedition at the end of 2014, over seventy scientists - ichthyologists, marine biologists, hydrologists, botanists, ornithologists, entomologists and herpetologists - braved these impenetrable primary forests to discover an exceptionally rich fauna and flora, on land, under the sea and even in underground rivers. The results are rich, with the discovery of some fifty species that were probably unknown until now.
