Les Rendez-vous de l’Eco: a conference on the theme of “Energy transition: citizens’ levers for action” at the Faculty of Economics

As part of the "Rendez-vous de l'Eco" series, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Montpellier, in partnership with Midi Libre, is organizing a conference on the theme: "Energy transition: levers for citizen action" on February 8, 2023, starting at 6 p.m., at the Richter Campus of the Faculty of Economics.

Why this conference?

The acceleration of climate change and the increase in extreme weather events remind us of the urgent need to drastically reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. In order to begin reducing emissions and meet our climate commitments, the energy sector will have to undergo a profound transformation, with the ultimate goal of achieving an economy that is completely independent of fossil fuels. One of the levers of this energy transition is the development of renewable energies, whose share in the mix is set to grow significantly in the coming years, as evidenced by the forward-looking studies carried out by the electricity transmission system operator RTE, where in the central scenario, solar and wind capacities will have to be multiplied by a factor of 11 and 3 respectively.

This will require rethinking the methods used to develop these energies to date and involving local communities and citizens, who have a fundamental role to play, to a greater extent. In this conference, our three speakers will discuss the levers for action to achieve this energy transition, with a focus on actions that can be taken by citizens.

Speakers:

  • Christian De Perthuis, Professor Emeritus at Paris-Dauphine University and founder of the Climate Economics Chair.
