The University of Montpellier is organizing its days of action against violence against women
From November 21 to 24, 2022, the University of Montpellier is organizing a series of events to combat violence against women. The program includes a self-defense workshop for female students and an improvisational theater performance open to the general public. This strong, long-standing commitment is part of an active policy to combat all forms of discrimination implemented by the University of Montpellier.
The University of Montpellier is committed to combating sexism and all forms of violence against women
On November 25, in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the University of Montpellier is offering a program designed to examine this violence from various perspectives. Understanding the drivers of control, analyzing “toxic masculinities,” learning to recognize this violence, respond to it, and protect oneself from it—all to say a categorical “no” to all gender-based violence.
Combating violence against women is a longstanding commitment at the University of Montpellier. Since 2020, it has also been one of the key priorities of its plan for professional equality between women and men. A priority that UM aims to develop and implement through concrete actions throughout the year.
The schedule for the “Days of Action Against Violence Against Women”
This week kicks off on Monday, November 21, at the Triolet Campus with an introductory self-defense workshop. The University of Montpellier is offering its female students a free introduction to self-defense. This hands-on training covers topics such as stress management, situational awareness, and avoidance techniques, and is designed to boost self-confidence. Led by legal and health professionals fromthe NUAGE association in Montpellier, this workshop consists of six 90-minute sessions and is open exclusively to female students at the University of Montpellier.
The week will continue on Thursday, November 24, with an improvisational theater session from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Aimé Schoenig Student Center in Richter. Through their improvisations, the actors will shed a unique light on certain scenes from our daily lives, from an offbeat perspective, sometimes with humor, always with the goal of making us reflect and helping us combat all forms of violence against women. During this interactive evening, the audience will be invited to submit phrases, words, ideas, or anecdotes on the theme of violence against women. The themes selected at random will be performed by the actors, who will also encourage everyone to participate.
