The University of Montpellier has reaffirmed its strong position in The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. In itssixth edition, the university has maintained its place in the overall rankings among the world’s top 101–200 institutions and ranks among the top three French institutions thanks to its long-standing commitment to sustainable development.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are an international ranking designed to measure the commitment and performance of higher education institutions in terms of sustainable development. This innovative ranking goes beyond simply evaluating research or education; instead, it adopts a different, more societal approach. It is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. A total of 1,591 universities participated in this fifth edition. Since the ranking’s inception in 2019, the University of Montpellier has been included every year, allowing it to highlight its commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility. This year, it ranks among the world’s top 100 for four goals, aligned with the institution’s core themes: food, health, and protection.
“The University of Montpellier is honored to be ranked among the top 200 in the world and the top 3 in France in the 2024 THE Impact Rankings. Our standing, both in France and internationally, year after year, reflects our commitment and strong dedication to sustainable development. This distinction is certainly no coincidence, but rather the result of our unwavering determination to continuously improve,” said Philippe Augé, president of the University of Montpellier.
