Montpellier University ranks highly in the QS World University Rankings 2024
The University of Montpellier has confirmed its high ranking in the QS World University Rankings. In its15th edition, it has maintained its status in the overall ranking among the best institutions worldwide and nationally. It is the French institution that has made the most progress this year in the discipline of "environmental sciences."
The QS World University Rankings, created in 2004, is one of the most reputable global rankings for higher education and research. It places a strong emphasis on reputation surveys, which account for 50% of the evaluation. This year, out of more than 1,700 of the most recognized universities in around 100 countries, 171 institutions are ranked according to 55 subject rankings, all grouped into five areas.

Our position, both in France and internationally, year after year, reflects our determination and strong commitment to the major fields of education. A ranking favorable to France and particularly to UM
A total of 80 French universities or schools appear in these rankings (7 more than in 2024), placing France fourth in the world behind the United States, China, and the United Kingdom. At the European level, France ranksthird, again in terms of the total number of institutions ranked.
The University of Montpellier is the French institution that has made the most progress this year, rising from151st to119th place in environmental sciences "thanks to significant gains in terms of academic reputation and reputation among employers," the British company also points out. The UM appears 22 times in this year's ranking, compared to 18 times in 2024, confirming its year-on-year progress.
The University of Montpellier also stands out in various international rankings.
The UM also ranks in the Shanghai ranking, which covers several topics, placing it among the top 200 universities in the world. It also ranks in the THE Impact Ranking, which measures the commitment and performance of higher education institutions in terms of sustainable development. In itssixth edition, UM maintains its first place among French institutions and ranks among the top 101-200 institutions worldwide for its long-standing commitment to sustainable development. This year, it ranks in the top 50 worldwide for two objectives related to the institution's major themes: feeding, caring for, and protecting. Indeed, UM stands out in the sustainable development goal (SDG) "good health and well-being," ranking30thworldwide and1st in France. In addition, UM has made significant progress on the SDG "life below water," ranking30thworldwide andonce again 1st nationally, demonstrating once again UM's excellence in ecology.
Finally, the University of Montpellier maintains its status in the CWTS Leiden Ranking. This ranking, which provides important information on the scientific performance of more than 1,500 leading universities worldwide, is based on scientific publications and their citations. In the 2024 world ranking, the University of Montpellier once again confirms its scientific influence both nationally and internationally, ranking4th nationally (first university outside Paris) and203rd worldwide.
According to Reuters' ranking of the most innovative universities, the University of Montpellier is the second most innovative university in France and ranks17th in Europe.
