[LUM#3] Anatomy Museum: An Inner Journey

Located at the heart of Montpellier’s prestigious School of Medicine, the anatomy museum has served as an invaluable educational resource for generations of medical students. Today, it stands as a unique testament to the history of anatomy education.

A true temple of medicine, the anatomy museum houses a unique collection nestled in the heart of the Montpellier School of Medicine. Strolling through this majestic gallery, punctuated by immense marble colonnades and adorned with portraits of famous doctors, is like traveling back in time to explore the history of a discipline that has been taught in Montpellier since the 13th century.

Anatomical specimens, wax, plaster, and papier-mâché casts, and surgical instruments—more than 13,000 items in total, displayed across two rooms —illustrate the human body and the diseases that affect it.
Designated as historic monuments, these precious artifacts trace the evolution of medical science and the teaching of anatomy. A visit to meet the first explorers of medicine, these pioneers of the unknown, who made this exceptional inner adventure possible.
