Science at UM [S01-ep11]: From populism to masculinity at the Science Bar
This week, Alexandre Dézé and Emmanuelle Reungoat, political science researchers at Cepel and authors of the book Au nom du peuple (In the Name of the People), deconstruct assumptions about populism. In the second part of the program, we focus on the upcoming science bar and its theme:"What is masculinity?"

French citizens, my fellow compatriots in mainland France, overseas territories, and abroad, hello and welcome to A LUM LA SCIENCE, the program that brings you weekly updates on scientific news from the laboratories of Muse, Montpellier University of Excellence.
As we begin 2022, I would first like to offer you my best wishes and assure you that, as president, I will do everything in my power to ensure that they do not come true. With me, false promises are a thing of the past. With me, "Everything becomes possible!"
Do you want good health? I guarantee the immediate eradication of COVID, cancer, and eczema, "whatever it takes."
Do you want security? I will demand that the borders be closed after 1 a.m., that the barriers be removed, and that the French non-vaccination passport be abolished.
Do you want happiness and love? I will ban sadness and reopen nightclubs, churches, and gatherings as soon as possible, without gel, without masks, without shirts, and without pants.
You want money? I promise to reduce social inequality by raising wages by at least 50% and lowering labor costs by at least the same amount. I will abolish wealth tax and unemployment tax.
You want ecology? I will declare war on global warming and freeze our relations with thermometers because change is now!
You want….
- Populist!
- What? What do you mean, populist? I'll give you populists! Do you even know what populism is?
- No
That's perfect timing, because our guests know exactly what that means. Last November, they published a book entitled "Au nom du peuple " (In theName of the People), in which they address all the preconceptions about populism in an attempt to better explain a concept that is increasingly being used as a catch-all category. Joining us in the studio are Alexandre Dézé and Emmanuelle Reungoat.
