A l'UM la science [S02-ep08]: From Human at home project to Sud de sciences

This week in A l'UM la science, Anne-Sophie Cases, coordinator of the interdisciplinary Human at Home project (HUT) , takes stock of 4 years of experimentation. The report takes us to the stage of the HUT theater, and Agnès Pesenti, in charge of scientific culture, talks about the Sud de sciences festival.

The most loyal of you may remember: almost two years ago, in a previous issue, we told you about the Human at home project. A unique experiment carried out in the heart of Montpellier. The aim? To test the habitat of the future, or rather, the habitat we wouldn't want in the future.

Every year since October 2018, two student volunteers have moved into a so-called "connected" apartment to live as normally as possible, while behind the scenes, a consortium of researchers have been busy collecting as much data as possible recorded by the apartment's ubiquitous sensors: environmental sensors to measure humidity, temperature or pollution, light and comfort sensors, home automation with voice assistant, connected objects of all kinds, floor sensors to decipher steps and possible musculoskeletal disorders, language analysis... Throughout these four years, 13 research laboratories from the University of Montpellier and the Paul Valery University worked on this program with the École des Mines d'Alès and the School of Architecture.

Far from being a technological experiment, Human at home (HUT) has taken up a human challenge over the past 4 years. It's a challenge that the team presented at a major conference. Our guest is Anne-Sophie Cases, coordinator of the HUT project since January 2020, and a researcher in digital marketing at the MRM laboratory.

For once, our second half of the show will be the first, as this week's feature is an extract from the play HUT Théâtre, about which our guest will also be talking.

Finally, our guest for the last 3 minutes is Agnès Pesenti, head of scientific culture at the University of Montpellier. She tells us about the Sud de Sciences scientific film festival, which kicks off on November 23.

At UM la science you've got the program, here we go!
