The SUD DE SCIENCES festival is part of the rich and diverse local research scene, reflecting the six thousand researchers in Montpellier's scientific community. Free of charge, it allows the public to view exceptional scientific films on current research topics that address societal issues, based on the themes of the I-SITE program of excellence, which brings together researchers from the region to respond to three major challenges: Feeding, Caring, and Protecting.

Inauguration of the Alexander Grothendieck forecourt

Michaël DELAFOSSE, President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, Mayor of Montpellier, Philippe AUGÉ, President of the University of Montpellier, Jean-Michel MARIN, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, and Cédric VILLANI, Fields Medal winner (2010), inaugurated the Alexandre Grothendieck forecourt in front of the Triolet campus.

Alexandre Grothendieck was the founder of algebraic geometry and the greatest mathematician of the 20th century, as many of his peers called him. He changed the landscape of mathematics, and this square pays tribute to him.

19th edition of Primavera

Doctoral degree award ceremony at the University of Montpellier

On Monday, June 26, 2023, the annual graduation ceremony honoring doctoral students from the University of Montpellier took place at the Corum in Montpellier. Doors open at 3 p.m. with coffee served in the Pasteur foyer.
The formal ceremony begins at 4 p.m., with speeches by officials, the presentation of interdisciplinary awards, and the doctoral school ceremony, lasting until 6:30 p.m.

After the graduation ceremony, the traditional hat throwing took place on the forecourt of the Corum. The procession of doctoral students then made its way to the Jardin des Plantes, passing through the Place de la Comédie and the Arc de Triomphe.

At the end of the day, starting at 7:30 p.m., the exhibition "Portraits of Doctors" gave visitors the opportunity to meet some young doctoral students who successfully defended their university theses during the 2021-2022 academic year. The exhibition will be open to the public in the presence of illustrator Elsa Gabet and photographer Gabriel Fradin.
