Polytech Montpellier launches an industrial engineering course in Béziers
Ln December 3, 2024, a new engineering training program will be launched in Béziers by École Polytechnique Universitaire de Montpellier (Polytech Montpellier) - an internal school of the University of Montpellier - with the support of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The event will start at 9 a.m. and will be attended by François-Xavier Lauch, Prefect of Hérault, Sophie Béjean, Rector of the Occitanie Academic Region, Rector of the Montpellier Academy, Chancellor of the Universities, Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice-President of Training and University Life at the University of Montpellier, and Lionel Torres, Director of Polytech Montpellier.
The opening of this industrial engineering training program is part of the drive by the rectorat de région académique, in conjunction with the Occitanie regional council, to roll out training programs to support the reindustrialization of Béziers and the development of new skills in the green industry sector (focusing on the production of hydrogen from renewable energies), while at the same time developing access to employment for local young people.
Local training for a fast-changing region
Polytech Montpellier's ambition is to promote the development of higher education and research in dynamic regions where access to high-level training has been limited. From 2025, the company will be offering a new industrial engineering course in Béziers to the CTI (Commission des titres d'ingénieurs). Thanks to this specialization, local students will be able to obtain a 5-year engineering degree without leaving their local area.
By setting up in Béziers, Polytech Montpellier aims to build bridges between secondary and higher education, supporting students from high school all the way to an engineering degree (BAC+5). This initiative is also designed to encourage social inclusion, by making excellent training courses accessible to regions with fewer higher education facilities. Last but not least, the program aims to meet the needs of local businesses, particularly in the fields of green industry and ecological transition.
A cross-functional program at the heart of industrial challenges
The new Industrial Engineering specialization stands out for its versatility. The major themes covered include industrial processes and their optimization; quality and maintenance, the pillars of industrial performance; environmental impact management, a key issue in the ecological transition; and management, to train leaders capable of steering complex projects. With this initiative, Polytech Montpellier is demonstrating a clear ambition: to train engineers ready to meet the industrial challenges of tomorrow, while energizing the local educational and economic fabric. This project illustrates the ability of academic institutions to adapt to changes in society, by building bridges between education, research and business.
