Romain Jacquet, new Chief Operating Officer of UM
Romain Jacquet is the new Chief Operating Officer of the University of Montpellier. Previously Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Nîmes University Hospital, he replaces Pascal Beauregard, who has retired.
A career in the hospital sector

A graduate of Sciences Po Bordeaux and the School of Advanced Studies in Public Health in Rennes, Romain Jacquet began his career at the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Hanoi in 1998 as a project manager. He then pursued a career in hospitals, which took him from hospitals in Marseille (2001-2003) to hospitals in Paris (2003-2006), from Montpellier University Hospital (2008-2015) to Nîmes University Hospital (2015-2017), where he held various positions: purchasing, logistics, and customer relations director, finance and business intelligence director, human resources and training director, and finally deputy general manager. In his last position, as the second-in-command, he coordinated a management team of 17 people within an institution comprising 6,500 professionals and with an annual budget of over €450 million. It is through this hospital career that Romain Jacquet has acquired cross-functional expertise in many areas of responsibility closely related to the duties of Chief Operating Officer, which he now performs at the University of Montpellier.
Experience in public research
In addition to his experience in the university hospital sector, Romain Jacquet served as secretary general of a public body, the French National Agency for Research AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS), between 2006 and 2008. This role allowed him to immerse himself in the world of research and contribute to the implementation of national policy. Responsible for leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams across different structures, he worked closely with the Ministries of Higher Education and Research, Health, and Foreign Affairs. This experience also enabled him to work on cross-cutting strategic issues with universities and research organizations that are members of the Agency (INSERM, CNRS, IRD, Institut Pasteur, etc.).
In his new role as Director General of Services at the University of Montpellier, his priorities will be to consolidate the merger completed in 2015, coordinate and lead teams to optimize management processes for staff and students, and strengthen partnerships related to I-SITE, while maintaining a healthy balance between human and financial resources.
