IUF 2023: six new laureates at the University of Montpellier

Six teacher-researchers from the University of Montpellier have been appointed senior members of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF), effective October 1ᵉʳ, 2023, for a period of five years. They were honored this Monday, September 18, 2023, at a ceremony at the Jardin des plantes attended by the IUF's new administrator, Elyès Jouini.

Since its creation in 1991, the mission of the Institut Universitaire de France has been to encourage the development of high-level research in universities and to strengthen interdisciplinarity. Each year, an international jury honors 200 junior and senior research professors for the exceptional quality of their research. This year, six senior researchers were honored in Montpellier. Their nomination entitles them to an annual research grant of 15,000 euros.

The Fundamental Chair winners are :

  • Guillaume Cassabois: University Professor in the Faculty of Science. His research at the Charles Coulomb Laboratory (L2C) focuses on optical spectroscopy of semiconductors.

  • Guillaume Herbet: Senior lecturer at the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine, he is a neuroscience researcher at the Institute of Functional Genomics (IGF).

  • Guillaume Maurin: university professor at IUT Montpellier-Sète. He is a researcher in theoretical physical chemistry at the Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier (ICGM).

  • Franck Nicoud: Professor at Polytech Montpellier. A specialist in fluid mechanics, he works as a researcher at the Institut montpelliérain Alexander Grothendieck (IMAG).

  • Eric Tournié : University Professor in the Faculty of Science. He conducts research in photonics at the Institut d'électronique et des systèmes (IES).
