IUF 2023: Six New Recipients at the University of Montpellier
Six Professors the University of Montpellier have been appointed as senior members of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF) effective October 1, 2023, for a five-year term. They were honored on Monday, September 18, 2023, during a ceremony at the Jardin des Plantes attended by the new administrator of the IUF, Elyès Jouini.

Since its creation in 1991, the Institut universitaire de France has been dedicated to promoting high-level research in universities and strengthening interdisciplinarity. Each year, through an international jury, it recognizes a group of 200 Professors junior and senior faculty members for the exceptional quality of their research. This year, six Professors were honored in Montpellier. This appointment entitles recipients to a research grant of 15,000 euros per year.
The recipients of the Fundamental Chair are:
- Guillaume Cassabois: Professor at the Faculty of Sciences. His research at the Charles Coulomb Laboratory (L2C) focuses on the optical spectroscopy of semiconductors.

- Guillaume Herbet: Associate Professor at the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine and a neuroscience researcher at the Institute of Functional Genomics (IGF).

- Guillaume Maurin: Professor at the Montpellier-Sète University Institute of Technology (IUT). He is a researcher in theoretical physical chemistry at the Charles Gerhardt Institute of Montpellier (ICGM).

- Franck Nicoud: professor at Polytech Montpellier. A specialist in fluid mechanics, he conducts research at the Alexander Grothendieck Institute (IMAG) in Montpellier.

- Eric Tournié: Professor at the Faculty of Science. He conducts research in photonics at the Institute of Electronics and Systems (IES).

As part of the Innovation Chair
- Jérôme Moreaux: Professor at the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine. His research at the Institute of Human Genetics (IGH) focuses on hematology.
