“Everyone Out: Installations Designed and Created with Students”
Throughout the 2022/2023 academic year, Maddalena Pornaro and Virginie Terroitin, architects from the l amicalecollective, invited students and staff from the Carcassonne site of the Faculty of Education (formerly IUFM) to collectively imagine and build artistic forms of park development: installations for eating, resting, playing, working, etc. By questioning uses, desires, encounters, and wishes, they helped to make it a living space in its own right. An artist residency entitled "Tout le monde dehors" (Everyone outside).
A participatory residence
The project helped to mobilize the university community after a period marked by COVID and the suspension of student life. Through the meetings and sensitive measures they put in place, the architects invited participants to shift their perspective on this university setting and on those who bring it to life. The involvement of each and every one in this collective project created a real sense of emulation and sparked a desire to continue this collective dynamic.
On an individual level, each personality was taken into account in its uniqueness, which allowed each person to find their place, flourish, and showcase their human and/or technical skills.
It is possible to imagine that this residency will remain a highlight and that its impact will be felt in the projects undertaken by future teachers trained at the Faculty of Education.
A residency offered by the Art & Culture Department – Campus Life Division of the University of Montpellier in partnership with the Faculty of Education. This artist residency received support from DRAC Occitanie and was co-financed by CVEC (Contribution Vie Étudiante et de Campus).
Student achievements
- A tiered table: this table, over 13 meters long, can seat more than 40 people to eat, play, work, and chat in the shade of its colorful roof. Thanks to its semi-circular seating, it can also be used as tiered seating for shows, classes, and more.

The official opening of these works will take place on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Faculty of Education on the Carcassonne campus.
The artists
Maddalena Pornaro and Virginie Terroitin are architects. In 2022, they created the l amicale , through which they have been involved for several years in alternative architectural practices focused on mediation, mobilization, and activation to better involve citizens in the creation of shared spaces.
