An industrial engineering course soon in Béziers
It's official as of December 3, 2024: the University of Montpellier's Polytech school wants to expand its range of training courses by submitting a proposal to the commission des titres d'ingénieur (CTI) for a new specialization in industrial engineering. The fruit of close collaboration with the IUT de Béziers and the Lycée Jean Moulin, this ambitious initiative aims to meet the needs of companies and the challenges of the ecological transition.
Polytech Montpellier's ambition is to promote the development of higher education and research in dynamic regions where access to high-level training has been limited, by offering a new industrial engineering degree program in Béziers to the CTI in 2025. Thanks to this specialization, students from this region will now be able to access a Bac+5 engineering degree without leaving their local area.
By setting up in Béziers, Polytech Montpellier aims to build bridges between secondary and higher education, supporting students from high school all the way to an engineering degree (BAC+5). This initiative is also designed to encourage social inclusion, by making excellent training courses accessible to regions with fewer higher education facilities. Last but not least, the program aims to meet the needs of local businesses, particularly in the fields of green industry and ecological transition.
A cross-functional program at the heart of industrial challenges
The new Industrial Engineering specialization stands out for its versatility. The major themes covered include industrial processes and their optimization; quality and maintenance, the pillars of industrial performance; environmental impact management, a key issue in the ecological transition; and management, to train leaders capable of steering complex projects.
The program will be offered under the FISA (Formation d'Ingénieur par l'Apprentissage) apprenticeship scheme, providing an enriching alternation between theory and practice. Students from BUT (mechanical and production engineering, industrial engineering and maintenance, energy transition professions, etc.), certain professional licenses such as AI and robotics at the Béziers IUT, BTS or even preparatory cycles (ATS: adaptation for senior technicians or PeiP: Polytech engineering school courses), will thus have a unique opportunity to move into professions of the future.
A response tailored to the needs of the region and the industry
Until now, the absence of a specialized engineering offer in Béziers represented a gap in the territorial network of the Occitanie region. By filling this gap, Polytech Montpellier is strengthening its strategic positioning, while taking care not to compete with other schools in the region, such asENSCM or Institut Agro.
This specialization, designed in collaboration with local players, is intended to complement existing training courses. It is in line with the University's strategic priorities, which are to support the ecological transition and encourage the development of local training courses in key towns such as Béziers.
A strong ambition for the future
With this initiative, Polytech Montpellier is demonstrating a clear ambition: to train engineers ready to meet the industrial challenges of tomorrow, while energizing the local educational and economic fabric. This project illustrates the ability of academic institutions to adapt to changes in society, by building bridges between education, research and business.
The first students in this specialization should be welcomed in September 2026 (subject to CTI accreditation), marking a decisive step in the development of higher education in Béziers. A great opportunity for the region and its up-and-coming talent.
