An international award for students

The Undergraduate Awards aim to identify the world’s most outstanding students in every field. UM students can now apply to this prestigious program, with the University of Montpellier being the first in France to be affiliated with it.
It’s the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for students. The Undergraduate Scholarships were established in 2012 under the patronage of the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. Today, they constitute the world’s largest program in the field of academic awards. The goal: to support the world’s brightest and most innovative students in every discipline. Open to 25 categories across all fields of knowledge—including science and technology, law, economics, and the humanities and social sciences—the award is given to the best projects or research papers submitted worldwide.

International recognition

Every September, the winners from each discipline are invited to Dublin, Ireland, for a four-day, all-expenses-paid trip to attend the medal ceremony at a global summit. This event opens up exciting opportunities for the new winners… and even opens certain doors, explains Evelina Colacino, a chemistry professor and researcher at the Max Mousseron Institute of Biomolecules.
“Winning the UA means being recognized in one’s field of research. Each winner is notably rewarded with the publication of their project in an international journal: The Undergraduate Journal.” A journal read by researchers seeking doctoral students with promising work, and by companies looking to recruit talent or develop technological innovations.“It has now become a tool for identifying young talent around the world,” explains Evelina Colacino.
Evelina is the program director and founder at the University of Montpellier. For her, participating in the UA World Summit offers winners numerous opportunities: “They will meet prominent figures, participate in interdisciplinary workshops to develop their projects in collaboration with other disciplines… It’s an opportunity for them to start building a valuable international network that they can leverage throughout their careers.”

Registration is currently open

UM students can now apply to this prestigious program. But they need to hurry: the application deadline is May 31, 2016. The selection process is based solely on merit, emphasizes Evelina Colacino: “Applications are evaluated in strict confidence. All applicants are subject to the same evaluation process, regardless of their university of origin, field of study, or country of residence.”…”
Who is eligible? All students are welcome to apply. However, we strongly recommend that you wait until you are in your second year of a master’s program before applying: “The bar is set high, so you need to demonstrate a certain level of maturity to have a good chance of being selected” explains Evelina Colacino. Note that the program is also open to students who earned their master’s degree the previous year.
