University of Montpellier: Organization of the “Observatoire Hommes Milieux” (OHM) Symposium – Mediterranean Coast
On September 13, 2022, the OHM Littoral Méditerranée symposium on the Aigues-Mortes Gulf site will take place throughout the day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. This seminar, organized by the University of Montpellier and the National Center for Scientific R Research (CNRS), will take place at the Club House of the Camargue Harbor Master’s Office, in the presence of Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier; Jacques Mercier, Vice President Research , University of Montpellier; Patrick Monfort, Director of OHM Littoral Méditerranéen; Stéphane Blanc, Director of INEE (Institute of Ecology and Environment) at the CNRS; as well as Robert Claustre, Mayor of Le Grau-du-Roi; Stéphan Rossignol, Mayor of La Grande Motte; and Véronique Négret, Mayor of Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone.
What is the Human-Environment Observatory (OHM)?
For the past 10 years, the Mediterranean Coast Human-Environment Observatory (OHM) has been conducting research to identify and determine patterns of coastal land use, development, and management that are compatible with habitat conservation and resource enhancement. This work is being carried out against a backdrop of competing land uses and global change (human impact, climate change), making sustainable coastal management—developed within the framework of ICZM (Integrated Coastal Zone Management)—more essential than ever.
What is the purpose of this conference?
This symposium will provide an opportunity to present the work of the OHM Littoral Méditerranéen on the area stretching from Port Camargue to Palavas-les-Flots to all relevant stakeholders: elected officials from local governments, local administrative bodies, or decentralized state agencies, as well as associations…
These presentations will provide an opportunity for discussion and questions about the work currently underway. These discussions will be taken into account in determining the future direction of the OHM Mediterranean Coast.
