Activities and objectives of the association

Brin de Forêt is an association whose ambition is to organize scientific events on current issues in ecology and biodiversity protection. This association creates a network for exchange between researchers, students, and people interested in ecology-related issues. By bringing together the general public, researchers, professionals, and students, we aim to promote the dissemination of knowledge about ecology and the place of humans in ecosystems through conferences and cultural and educational projects.
The association is run by students enrolled in the BioGET (Plant Biology and Tropical Ecosystem Management) program of the B2E Master's degree at the University of Montpellier. As part of this program, a symposium on a topical issue concerning tropical ecosystems is organized each year. Since 2014, the association has addressed the themes of "Payments for Environmental Services," "Climate Change and its Impacts on Tropical Ecosystems," "Biodiversity erosion," "Ecological engineering in the tropics," "Ethnobotany: plants and humans, intertwined destinies in the tropics," and "Do women and men have the same relationship with tropical ecosystems?" This year, the symposium will focus on the myth of the virgin forest, accompanied by a reflection on the place of human societies in tropical ecosystems. Speakers from different disciplines will take turns to fuel the debate on this subject.
