Art & Culture

Content type: Page
Ready for enchantment, reflection, imagination, and daydreaming? Contemporary art and culture are reinvented every year at the University of Montpellier through artist residencies, events, exhibitions, workshops, and more… The teams spare no time or effort in offering a unique and diverse program across the university’s various campuses and sometimes even online. Whether you’re a student or a university staff member, take some time this year for a cultural escape: inspiration, creativity, and recreation are right at your fingertips. Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier Agnès Fichard-Carroll, Vice President for Social Responsibility Academic Year 2024/2025 The Art & Culture Department offers students and staff the opportunity to experience contemporary art and cultures both on campus and beyond. The program is developed in close collaboration with various members of the university community and local cultural organizations. It regularly reaches out to the general public, thereby fostering an openness of the campuses to the city. To strengthen its commitment to promoting and expanding artistic outreach,UM established a roadmap defining the major cultural priorities for the next two years. This roadmap affirms the essential role of art within the institution, encourages artistic practice and the creation of artistic projects, and highlights inclusion and personal fulfillment through culture. In line with this desire to provide cultural experiences at the highest level,UM the “student artist” status at the start of the 2024 academic year, which allows students to balance their artistic activities with their academic studies by benefiting from flexible study arrangements and personalized support. Among the Art & Culture Department’s flagship initiatives, hosting artists—particularly through residencies—places artistic creation at the heart of the university’s cultural life. This cultural life is further enriched by a range of workshops designed to encourage artistic practices among the student body and staff. The department also supports individual and collective initiatives led by students, staff, university associations, and, of course, the academic departments (UFRs), schools, institutes, and research units. To stay up to date on the department’s news and events, feel free to check out its dedicated Instagram account: @artumontpellier. The Art & Culture Department’s initiatives are supported by the DRAC Occitanie. Art & Culture Website
