Pathways to Commercialization Several pathways to commercialization are available to researchers wishing to apply their research to the socio-economic sphere: Technology transfer to an academic or industrial partner Provisions of the Innovation Act (participation in business creation and the activities of existing companies, scientific competitions, participation in governance bodies, etc.) Technology Transfer Technology transfer facilitates the market entry of solutions derived from research. It serves to protect, negotiate, and generate financial resources from an innovation resulting from the work carried out by our scientific community. In 2022, the University of Montpellier was ranked among the top 50 patent applicants with the INPI, placing it de facto among the top 10 higher education institutions in France in terms of the number of patents filed. The University of Montpellier has a subsidiary tasked with accelerating technology transfer. The University of Montpellier has also established a commercialization subsidiary, the technology transfer acceleration company: SATT AxLR. SATT AxLR has an investment fund that supports research teams in bringing their projects to market and developing innovations tailored to market needs. It also provides access to the University of Montpellier’s intellectual property rights for the technologies it manages.
