TUAILLON (UM/CHU Montpellier) The University Hospital Federation (FHU) TIE [taɪ]—whose acronym refers to its overarching objective of modeling human-microorganism interactions, from emergence to long-term complications, through a triangulation between the host, infectious agents, and the environment—brings together stakeholders in the Montpellier-Nîmes region involved in research and care related to infectious diseases and related fields (microbiology, immunology, public health). What sets the TransVIHMI UMI apart is its multidisciplinary approach, whose primary initial objective is to study the specific characteristics of HIV and associated diseases—particularly tuberculosis—from epidemiological, virological, bacteriological, parasitological, clinical, and social perspectives. The unit has expanded its focus to include non-HIV infections—no longer limited to the context of HIV co-infection—as well as neglected and emerging tropical diseases. Consequently, more recent work has led to the development of a new research-intervention focus within the framework of the response to epidemics (EBOLA).
