Social Responsibility
Content type: Page
For several years now, the University of Montpellier has been committed to an ambitious and inclusive approach to social responsibility. It strives to make its campuses tolerant and respectful environments that foster the personal and professional growth of its entire community: staff and students. A Proactive and Committed Policy Beyond regulatory obligations, the university takes action to continuously improve well-being in the workplace and in academic life. With this in mind, UM implements a firm policy against all forms of discrimination, whether based on gender, origin, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. It promotes gender equality, takes a stand against sexist and sexual violence, and ensures respect for the principle of secularism. Within this framework, an internal system allows the university community to report acts of violence, discrimination, harassment, and sexist behavior and to receive support from UM’s counseling center. In 2024, UM became the first French university to obtain the Alliance label, which combines the gender equality label and the diversity label. This dual label, issued by AFNOR, recognizes the work carried out by the institution and enables it to pursue a path of continuous improvement in its action plans. Supportive Social Initiatives To support students’ professional and academic journeys, UM implements a range of unique social measures. This support takes the form of social and financial aid, personalized guidance provided by social services professionals, and specific programs to address situations of precariousness or vulnerability. These initiatives help create a fulfilling environment, foster social connections, and facilitate a better work-life balance between professional or academic life and personal life. Through this policy, UM affirms its commitment to actively contributing to a more just, united, and inclusive society, in line with the objectives of corporate social responsibility principles. More information is available in the “See also” section (top right of this page) on gender equality, diversity, and the reporting system for acts of violence, discrimination, harassment, and sexist behavior.
