UM Visual Identity
Logo
The University of Montpellier’s logo is inspired by the emblem of the Guilhem dynasty, the founders of the city of Montpellier. In 1181, Guilhem VIII granted the city a right that would shape its destiny: the freedom to teach medicine. From that point on, university education took root, and scientific and economic life flourished around the university.

The University of Montpellier’s logo draws on the legacy of this founding dynasty. It symbolizes the shared history and heritage of which the entire university community is the heir. Its shape, reminiscent of a reimagined seal or emblem, highlights both the historical roots of an 8-century-old university and its modernity (outer crenellation).
The interior elements, for their part, reflect interdisciplinarity and influence. Finally, the color red is intended to capture students’ attention, helping them to more easily identify with the “University of Montpellier” brand.
Brand Guidelines
The University of Montpellier’s graphic charter lays the foundation for the institution’s visual identity and establishes a number of standards that must be followed to ensure its integrity (rules for using the logo, typographic guidelines, etc.)
The purpose of the graphic guidelines is to ensure visual consistency for the University of Montpellier. They are designed to enable the university’s various stakeholders and the general public to easily identify the institution.
