Bridging the gap between secondary school and university: how, who and why?

For several years now, the University of Montpellier has been involved in initiatives aimed at re-establishing or reinforcing synergies between secondary and higher education to facilitate this transition. These actions also aim to develop young people's ambitions for further study as early as possible.

Since 2008, our liaison operations have become more numerous and diversified, depending on the target audience.

For high school students in particular, some of these are part of an active career guidance program designed to inform and support them in their choice of career path, and help them choose the courses best suited to their background and plans.

Others aim to develop educational projects for younger audiences, such as primary and secondary school pupils, to help them develop their taste, interest and academic ambitions.

You can meet us at various academic information fairs in Perpignan, Mende, Alès, etc.

High school students at university

To promote scientific studies, the University of Montpellier, in partnership with the Rectorat de Montpellier, welcomes students from the Première and Terminale scientific (general and technological streams) to the Triolet campus throughout the year.

Who is concerned? Guidance is everyone's business!

The primary focus is on students. The aim is to support them in the construction of their project throughout their career, in order to encourage a positive orientation and prevent the risk of failure at school and university.

Members of the educational community (teachers, COP, CPE, educational assistants, etc.) and higher education staff (teacher-researchers, project managers, guidance staff, etc.) are the primary players in this support for choice. The aim of these operations is also to create a new synergy between the two worlds, and to encourage exchanges on practices to best prepare students for higher education.

Last but not least, the UM students are essential to our actions. Their contributions are much appreciated by secondary school students, both for sharing their own experiences as students, and for their role as tutors for specific projects. These are enriching exchanges for both the students and the students themselves.
