Tawana Kupe: Charisma in the Service of African Higher Education
Following the recommendation of Patrick Caron, Vice President for International Relations, the University of Montpellier awarded Professor Tawana Kupe an honorary doctorate last October. A native of Zimbabwe, this media specialist has enjoyed a distinguished career in South Africa, culminating in his current position as vice chancellor of the University of Pretoria.

Chipepo Kankasa, “The Obsession with Transmission”
Based on the recommendations of Montpellier professor Philippe Vande Perre, the University of Montpellier awarded an honorary doctorate to Zambian pediatrician Chipepo Kankasa last October. Widely recognized for her research on mother-to-child transmission of HIV, she has also been instrumental in expanding access to antiretroviral treatments for African children and in developing prevention strategies in Zambia to combat HIV transmission through breastfeeding.

Randall Wisser, the geneticist who combines AI and biodiversity
American geneticist Randall Wisser has just joined INRAE to develop the seeds of the future. His approach: drawing on the genetic resources of seeds from around the world and then using computer modeling to simulate their adaptation to new environments. Coming from the University of Delaware, his arrival in Montpellier is the result of an EXPLORE exchange, MUSE’s international mobility program.
