GREEN GECKO
Coordinator: University of Montpellier
Dates: December 1, 2025 – November 30, 2028
Description: The Green Gecko project aims to combat climate change by improving engineering education in Southeast Asia. Engineers play a crucial role in designing and implementing solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a sustainable future.
The project has identified two main challenges: the lack of integration of climate change issues into engineering education and the lack of links between universities and industry. To address these issues, Green Gecko will introduce a new educational approach to equip the future workforce with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve carbon neutrality. It will bring together four universities in Thailand, four in the Philippines, and four in Europe, with the active support of industry partners.
This project builds on the CBHE GECKO project (2017–2021), which aimed to improve engineering education by incorporating interpersonal and managerial skills. To achieve its objectives, it plans to: (1) develop new modules and methodologies to train engineers and educators; (2) establish a network to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry; (3) conduct a pilot phase to test the effectiveness of the training modules with students.

Title:Joint Development of a Training Program Aimed at High Employability
Project Description: Theproject aims to improve the employability of young Algerian graduates by addressing the socio-economic sector’s need for mid-level managers who are immediately ready for the workforce. Currently, professional bachelor’s degrees are not fulfilling their intended role because they lack appeal for both students and potential employers. The project therefore seeks to give the socio-economic sector a voice in articulating its needs and creating professional bachelor’s degrees that meet those needs.
Role of the UM: Coordinator
Duration: October 15, 2015– March 14, 2019
Target countries: Algeria
Main beneficiaries: Highschool students, college students, the business community, and universities.
Objectives: Theexpected outcomes are the launch of a total of 18 pilot bachelor’s degree programs, two per Algerian university. To date, the demand for mid-level managers in the socio-economic sector has been assessed. Based on this demand, Algerian universities have submitted three proposals for vocational bachelor’s degree programs they would like to launch as part of the project. In parallel, and to prepare for the launch of these programs, the consortium has worked on developing a structural matrix, a procedure for co-designing training programs with high employability, as well as a directory of training programs, skills, and professions.
Algerians will also receive training in “professionalizing education,” and each university will send four faculty members to European partners to benefit from a skills transfer.
