On Friday, March 22, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Van Allen Foundation which supports the Montpellier University Space Center, is organizing—for the fourth consecutive year—a unique conference on space, which is free and open to the public.

This year, the Van Allen Foundation is hosting experts Yves Langevin, a planetary scientist at the Institute of Space Astrophysics, and Eric de Saintignon of Airbus, for two exclusive presentations.

On the agenda:

  • Presentation by Yves Langevin on the BepiColombo Mission and the challenges of orbital transfers for interplanetary space missions.
The BepiColombo mission is an exploration mission to Mercury that launched on October 19, 2018. Mercury is a little-known planet, yet its proximity to the Sun makes it an important scientific target for understanding the origins of the solar system.
  • Presentation by Eric de Saintignon on the OneWeb project and satellite constellations.
The OneWeb project involves producing 900 satellites weighing 150 kg each, manufactured in series using a new production system. They will be launched as a constellation orbiting the Earth and will provide internet access to everyone on the planet.
