OSNI— Unidentified Scientific Objects—is a program offered regularly by the Historical Heritage Department and the Joint Documentation Service.

Leaving the Science and Pharmacy Library where they are housed, they are now going digital—as a result of the lockdown—and taking to social media to pique your curiosity even more and surprise you.

As witnesses to the history of science and technology, these objects—drawn from the University’s heritage collections—have become mysteries whose function, purpose, and even names have been forgotten!

The Principle

For one month, an object will be presented to test your ingenuity: it’s up to you to figure out what it is.

To give you a hint, a visual or audio clue is revealed each week on the University Libraries’ website and Facebook pages, as well as ontheHistorical Heritage Department’swebsiteandInstagram account.

To play

Please send the name of the OSNI by December 18 to this email address.

In the end, a random drawing from among the correct answers will determine the winner, who will receive a real prize.
