Learning More Effectively: The Best Study Strategies Backed by Science

College studies require a significant time commitment and often must be balanced with other responsibilities. As a result, students frequently face pressure to perform and struggle with time constraints. This lecture aims to present strategies based on how the brain works to optimize attention, enhance memory retention, and improve stress management. Following this lecture, students will have a basic understanding of the cognitive mechanisms involved and will be able to make informed choices to support their academic success.

About the Author

Dr. Karen Debas is a neuropsychologist who graduated from the University of Montreal. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the brain mechanisms of memory and the influence of sleep on learning. She began her career at the University of Montreal’s Student Learning Support Center, where she worked with students experiencing academic difficulties. For the past nine years, she has worked in the public geriatric care system, combining her clinical practice with training for healthcare professionals. Driven by a passion for science communication, she is co-author of the book *Savoir apprendre pour réussir: les meilleures stratégies d’études validées par la science* (2020), hosted the series *Comprendre pour apprendre* on Savoir média, and has contributed to various segments, notably on Radio-Canada’s science program *Les années lumière*.
