Water has shaped the history and geography of the Earth, as well as the history of the human civilizations that have lived and continue to live there to this day. However, the outlook for freshwater is not encouraging, as it is widely believed that its scarcity seems inevitable.

In this era of global warming, between scarcity, unequal distribution of resources, rapid population growth, rampant urbanization, and various forms of pollution, freshwater is at risk of becoming a major strategic issue and a source of conflict.

This Science Bar is organized in partnership with the University of Nîmes. Several multidisciplinary experts will come together to discuss the topic and answer questions from the audience live:

  • Patrick Lachassagne, hydrogeologist, research director at the Montpellier Hydrosciences Laboratory (IRD – University of Montpellier);
  • Corinne Le Gal Lasalle, professorof geochemistry at the University of Nîmes;
  • Karine Weiss, professorof social and environmental psychology at the University of Nîmes.
