Water has shaped the Earth's history and geography, as well as the history of the human civilizations that have lived and continue to live there to this day. However, the outlook for freshwater is bleak, with the general consensus being that its scarcity is inevitable.

In the age of global warming, between scarcity, unequal distribution of resources, demographic acceleration, galloping urbanization and various forms of pollution, freshwater risks becoming a major strategic issue and a source of conflict.

This Science Bar is organized in partnership with the University of Nîmes. A number of multi-disciplinary experts will be on hand to answer questions from the public:

  • Patrick Lachassagne, hydrogeologist, director of research at the Laboratoire Hydrosciences Montpellier (IRD - University of Montpellier);
  • Corinne Le Gal Lasalle, professorof geochemistry at the University of Nîmes;
  • Karine Weiss, Professorof Social and Environmental Psychology at the University of Nîmes.
