Even though we have never been better informed, society is paradoxically facing a massive wave of misinformation. In the face of this glut of information—some of which is inaccurate—critical thinking is of the utmost importance.
Our society faces challenges related to public health, sustainable development, and the flood of information. In order to make informed choices in these and other areas, we must be able to distinguish between facts and opinions, and to differentiate between information that is trustworthy and information that lacks sufficient guarantees of reliability.

Developing critical thinking skills allows us to move beyond stereotypes, biases, preconceived notions, and intuitive assumptions, thereby ensuring that the mere expression of an opinion does not amount to a judgment.

To discuss this topic at the intersection of science and society, two multidisciplinary experts will answer questions from the audience live:

  • Gabriela Litre, Ph.D. in Geography and Sustainable Development, research associate specializing in global environmental change and public policy at the University of Brasília, and visiting scholar at MUSE (Montpellier University of Excellence).
  • Agnès Perrin-Doucey, Dean of the Faculty of Education (University of Montpellier), Associate Professor of French Language and Literature.
